About.

Dennis calls his unique mix of modern folk, rock, roots, and country music  "California-Americana," drawing favorable comparisons to fellow Golden State associated singer-songwriters such as Jackson Browne, Dave Alvin, and Ben Harper.  He's performed in coffeehouses, wineries, bars, backyards, front yards, gymnasiums, stadiums, living rooms, theatres, festivals, street corners, beach fronts, mountain shacks, and railroad tracks--anyplace that anyone might request one of his songs.

Highlights of his career in music include:

  • opening act for Cyndi Lauper, as well as other established artists such as Rosie Flores, Katy Moffatt, Lili Haydn and Dan Bern

  • playing at the legendary Whisky-a-Go-Go and the iconic Roxy in Los Angeles

  • hosting an open mic at the Moondog Cafe in Hollywood

  • having his song "There's a Guy" appear in the independent film Verses

  • writing incidental background music for theatre productions of Charlotte's Webb and The Vaudevillians

  • finding his song "Santa Fe" included in the lyrics section of the Santa Barbara Literary Journal (SBLitJo).

For several years, he lived in Lancaster, CA, where he taught courses in Songwriting, Popular Music Performance, Live Sound Production and Rock'n'Roll History to the eager students of Antelope Valley College. Since 2008, he has been based in Santa Barbara, CA, where he taught UCSB's Music and Popular Music course for 4 years.

He has released three albums of original music: My Little World, Acoustic-Senstive-Singer-Songwriter-Type-Guy, and Golden. When not writing, recording and touring as a solo singer-songwriter, he plays  pedal steel guitar for Santa Barbara-based Honky Tonk band, Holdfast Rifle Company. He also plays lead electric guitar and fronts  the instrumental surf music band Bottlenose.

Dennis has published a book of short stories, That Fourth of July, and a book of poetry, Surfer Song, both are available at Amazon. com.
