Songwriters at Play Tribute to Eric Clapton

Dennis plays the Martin 000-28 EC model acoustic guitar. He bought it because it is one of the best guitars he's ever heard.

The EC part of that model number means that it is the Eric Clapton signature model.

What better way to tribute the namesake of the guitar than play a few of the man's songs!

Laura will be playing the accordion, too, so it's Eric Clapton unplugged with accordion.

House Concert for Santa Barbara Literary Journal Songwriters

Dennis and Laura will be hosting a house concert in honor of Volume II's lyricists. Featuring, from the latest volume, Donna Lynn Caskey, and Ian McCartor, and from the first volume, Jen Hajj, Mac Talley, Bill Lanphar, and Dennis Russell.

Reception for Santa Barbara Literary Journal, Karpeles Manuscript Museum

Dennis will perform one of his songs at this reception for Volume II of the Santa Barbara Literary Journal. Authors will read their works of fiction, poetry and drama, and other songwriters will perform their songs. Dennis was honored to have a song published in the first Volume of the SBLitJo, and is happy to sing at this reception as an alumnus.

Cambridge Drive Holiday Show

Dennis and Laura have been asked to play a few songs at the Cambridge Drive Concert Series annual Holiday Show.

Come sing along to the song Dennis wrote for last year's Cambridge Drive performance, "Christmas in California"!

Jackie Morris, Steve Werner, Robert Postel, Jamie Green, Jeff Bisch, plus touring singer/songwriter, Jen Hajj, will also be contributing their talents to this show, so come on out.

And speaking of contributions, rather than charge for admission, we ask the audience to bring non-perishable food items, new toys, new clothing, and/or cash, all of which which will be donated to the Unity Shoppe. All of the performers donate their time and talent to this event.

Dennis Russell is married to a woman named Laura, but not a Nyro. Laura Hemenway will sing a couple of Nyro's songs, and Dennis will sing one, too.

You should come out to hear a lot of great Laura Nyro songs, sung by Dennis and Laura and several other amazing Central Coast singers and Songwriters at Play. You have to be a good singer to sing these songs, because they are nigh on difficult and extremely challenging to sing...and play on an instrument. So to simultaneously play an instrument and sing Laura Nyro songs is a true test of skill and emotional sensitivity. We're up to it. Are you up to listening? Yeah, I know you are!

The challenge has been issued and the challenge shall be met! Steve Key, promoter of the Songwriters at Play songwriter events has asked Dennis (along with other talented Central Coast singer-songwriters) to join him for a New Year's Day show. The daughter of two vagabond musicians, Gabrielle inherited the genetic predisposition to wanderlust and song. Gabrielle Louise's music is anchored deeply in folk, but undeniably drawn to rich harmonies and melodic adventurism. Her sound has the earthy feel of early Joni Mitchell while also veering into the spirited delivery of fellow genre- hopping artist Eva Cassidy.
